Shades: Poetry
Jim's Book of Romantic Poetry
"Shades" Exceprt: Title Poem:
Shades

By Jim Akman

Grey

It’s a color without substance or flavor,

An inexact shading that does lie

somewhere between the darkness of man’s soul,

And the brilliance of human potential.

Grey caresses the ordinary,

It diminishes the day to day,

And most of all, it permeates the mundane.

Grey is also the fog which I find myself in as

I go through my daily rituals.

They are the same as yesterday,

And the day before that,

And yet, something is different…

There is a Warmth…

It spreads slowly…

and I am reminded of a cold winter

morning,  as the hot cocoa in my tummy takes

the chill off of cooler extremities…

It expands outward from a

central febrile point,

and it envelops all of my unshaded being.

I bask in the glow,

and I savor the brightness as it projects,

from a spot of color.

Actually, Two spots of color…

Two spots of several colors

of which are focused upon me.

Blue.

Green.

Green and Blue, poured together, and yet,

Somehow, they are not mixed into a single hue.

I see sparkling flecks of brown, gold, and

silver as they pepper twin orbs,

And an inner luminescence

illuminates them from behind.

Joie de vivre,

in the language of L’amour.

Joie… The Joy

De vivre… Of Life!!!

The joy of life is there within her eyes.

I look again, and there I see all of her.

She has two blue & green prism eyes,

set like precious gems atop prominent cheeks,

The cheeks are rounded and rosy like

twin, ripened peaches…

And I desire to taste of them, with but a brush of my lips.

Nestled above, those delicate  eyebrows mirror the

tow colored gossamer of her silken hair.

Soft delicate hair… which,

if woven into a garment would be worn

close to the heart,

Where every palpitation would ripple out like

a gentle caress along my breast.

The Eyes.

Something extremely compelling about

the eyes belies all else…

For a moment, the shades of Grey are in abeyance,

but even if the deign to return, I’ll still see…

blue, and green, with flecks of

brown,   gold and silver…

Colors…

No longer just shades.
